EUROPE 2 YOU :: Found Glass Demijon Large

Primarily, demijons were used for storing and shipping wine and Pálinka, the fruit flavored brandy typical of the Transdanubia Region. The region is dotted with tiny villages, each proud of their own culture and traditions including the art of making wine and Pálinka, a traditional type of brandy known to provide strength and lift spirits.

Traditionally Pálinka was an important part of the villager’s diet.  Due to their physically demanding work in the fields and poor diet, the fruit flavored Pálinka served as a digestive.

These particular bottles date back to the end of the 19^th Century but most are between 50 and 80 years old.  The demijons that remained at home, without needing to be transported, were simply the plain glass in our collection.
