EUROPE 2 YOU :: Antique Pizza Board Round X-Large

Our wooden pizza boards were discovered in the southern part of Germany in an area called Baden Wurttemberg near Alsace, France.  This area of Germany is famous for their version of the Italian Pizza known as the Flammkuchen.  This pizza version is basically a disc of hand kneaded dough covered with crème fraiche, onions and bacon although other traditional pizza toppings are often used.  Basically the dough was rolled out very thinly onto the wooden pizza board, the creme fraiche was spread on top and then bacon and onions were sprinkled on before being placed in a wood-fired oven.

After stumbling into an old pizza pub in the heart of Europe’s Black Forest, we fell in love with these hand-crafted pizza boards ideal for serving as well as preparing. These wooden boards were used to roll the dough before baking pizza type bread in brick ovens. The pizza or bread was placed back on the board once it was taken out of the oven for cooling, typically on large pizza racks before it would be served.
